I just completed a task that has been on my to-do list for over a year. The Red Garter Revue that is produced by my woman's club was March 2 & 3, and I was the chair this year. It's a local variety show that we use as our spring fundraiser. The show was amazing and we raised over $10,000. To say that I'm relieved that it's over would be a major understatement. I had a blast doing what I do best: planning, organizing and bossing. I couldn't have accomplished the event at all without the support of Parrish, my parents and the munchkin. She has been so patient with me this past year while I was so busy. And Parrish serves the role as sidekick perfectly...he danced, built some of the set, along with anything else I asked him to do. And my folks were here to care for Sylvie when I was away all week long. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better result for my efforts. Very proud and happy.
And all the while, real life still rolls on. Sylvie had her first round of dance recital pictures. Parrish was kind to take her for me but deemed the event a "nightmare." Turns out scheduling ten two-year-olds to wait to take pictures together at 7:45 am on a Saturday isn't that bright of an idea. I'm honestly glad I missed this milestone and instead stayed in my warm bed. I think I'll have plenty of time to witness that chaos for the next 18 years or so.
The Sunday after Red Garter, March 4, was our sixth anniversary. We celebrated quietly at home, in recovery mode. Parrish did surprise me with a gorgeous chocolate diamond necklace that is STUNNING. I surprised him by not objecting to him buying himself a road bike. Lance Jr. now resides on Diane Drive with me, complete with padded tights and an aerodynamic jersey. I really didn't think he could look any skinnier until I saw him ensconced in Spandex.
Sylvie has joined the mobile ranks herself this month by learning to ride her tricycle. Steering, not so much, but she can definitely reach and push the pedals all by herself. We are contemplating buying a bike trailer so we can all ride together. I think I need to stronger legs and lungs before we make that a part of our routine. Whew.
One of the best things that's going on at our house right now is Lent. I, as usual, decided to forgo sweets for the 40 days before Easter. But this year I also decided to teach Sylvie the Lord's Prayer. There's truly nothing sweeter that hearing her little voice sing with me each night at bedtime. It really only took about a week for her to learn the whole thing, with major emphasis on "for thine is the KINGDOM, and the POWER, and the GLORY, FOREEEEEEVVVVERRRR!"
Sylvie has also started winking, which is about the funniest thing I've ever seen. It's a whole-body experience. I'll try to get a better video of it this week and post. Hilarious.
Parrish and I are headed to Big Sky, Montana, this week for some "continuing ed" on the slopes. Wish us luck...better yet, wish my mom luck in keeping the munchkin for an entire week. Yikes. Suckaaa! When we return, my reprieve will end as I start full-force in planning for the Three Notch Market in May, the arts and crafts festival my woman's club sponsors. I'm in charge of recruiting and organizing all the vendors, a fun but daunting task. So even though my break will be short-lived, I am really happy to be able to volunteer as much as I do.
God bless,
Katie
