Answered prayer!

Well, the prayers worked! Last night I called the NICU to see how Sylvie did at her 8 pm feed, and guess what...she pooped not once, but twice! I was thrilled, to say the least. The ball really started rolling when we arrived at the hospital this morning...I got to speak to both of her surgeons, she had tolerated all of her incremental feeds during the night, and most importantly, she got to move out of the NICU! She is now in the "cube," a step below the NICU. There are 4 babies in the room with monitored care. The surgeons are letting her guide her feeding schedule, and she's now up to 30 mL of breastmilk every 3 hours, with full feeds at 40 mL throughout tonight. If she does well, I will get to breastfeed tomorrow! She is also off her nutritional IV and is just receiving IV fluids. Breastmilk is best!

Although this is wonderful, surprising news, I am very overwhelmed and nervous. I don't want to rush her little system. In my humble opinion, slow and steady wins the race. But we're trusting her doctors. I have also already talked with her discharge nurse, who will see us through her last days at Children's and back to our house. We will spend time "rooming in" with Sylvie as the last step before she gets discharged. I will get special training before they let us go. Please pray that their advice is what Sylvie needs, that God grant them wisdom in treating her, and that she will continue to grow strong each day.

Here are some photos from today. She likes being in her big girl bed and getting to be rocked a lot. She also really likes her Sleep Sheep (awesome noise machine)!

As always, our family appreciates all the prayers prayed for our baby. We completely acknowledge that all of the good progress is due to God's hand in our lives.
God Bless,
Katie
